COTTONWOOD HOUSE
Set within the Chimacum Valley, this new farmhouse replaces an existing residence that no longer met the owners’ needs. Rather than discard the old home, it was relocated and repurposed into additional farm housing on the property.
The new design emphasizes both family gathering and long-term comfort. Organized on a single level for aging in place, the plan creates flowing connections between kitchen, living, and outdoor spaces, all oriented to frame views of sheep pasture and forest. An 18-foot-long offset skylight pulls daylight deep into the center of the house, balancing the broad landscape windows that anchor each room.
Durability was a priority: the exterior is clad in thermally treated siding, chosen for its resistance to rot and fire, while the interiors rely on a restrained palette of beech cabinetry, maple floors, and sandy tiles. The result is a home that combines modern simplicity with rural pragmatism.
